You can see his defensive posturing, spreading his hood and standing up to appear larger. He doesn't want to bite me and is hoping this will be enough to discourage me from eating him, unbeknownst to him I dont mean any harm. Snakes lack the cerebral cortex, the higher learning center of the brain and therefore aren't capable of the same level of understanding that we have.
